Stratford-upon-Avon, known locally as just Stratford is a stunning town just south of Warwick, the county town of Warwickshire. Stratford is a big pull for tourism in the area, particularly the Chinese and Americans who love the historic town which dates back to 1196 an Anglo-Saxon times, many centuries older than the states or the tech centre of the east.
Stratford is of course known for its links with William Shakespeare. He was born in Stratford and his birthplace and the theatre built in his honour are among some of the most visited UK attractions.
The RSC (The Royal Shakespeare Company) transformed the 1932 theatre into a grand celebration of all things Shakespeare and of course theatre.
The RSC describes it as “A Grade II listed building which retains many of the art deco features of the 1932 Shakespeare Memorial Theatre.” It re-opened in November 2010 after a three-year transformation project.”
