Head to any bar or pub and you’ll probably see large gin cocktails being enjoyed. It really is the thing to drink right now.

The humble juniper berry is now celebrated all over the world at tastings, festivals, and even bars which are completely dedicated to the drink. Who’d have thought a ‘gin bar’ would become a ‘thing’!

It’s for good reason, though. As you’ll discover in this guide, there are a huge number of gin cocktail names now in existence, and they extend far beyond the classic gin and tonic with a hint of lemon or lime.

Now, you can choose from a massive range of gorgeous gin cocktails to make the most of your night out - or night in. That’s why we’ve decided to put together the ultimate list of gin cocktail names, complete with super-simple recipes so you can have a go at making one for yourself.

What do I need?

To start off with, you’ll just need some of the basic kit. That is, until you find you enjoy it so much that you want to build a gin bar in the back garden! 

Start with a strainer, shaker, and jiggers – ideally double 25/50ml and 15/30ml. If you fancy getting involved with ice tongs and metal straws there’s a kit on Amazon.

 

What is a good mix with gin?

There are so many mixers that work perfectly with gin.

Beyond the basic mixers (tonic water, soda, and lemonade, for instance), you can easily blend any of the following with gin for the perfect drink:

-          Lime juice

-          Pineapple juice

-          Ginger ale

-          Vermouth

-          Grapefruit

-          Pink lemonade

-          Coke

-          Cranberry juice

If any of the gin mixers above raised an eyebrow, give them a go - you’ll be surprised by how well they work together.

 

What is a gin liqueur?

Gin might be as old as the hills, but the ‘ginaissance’ (as it has been termed) has seen the rise of the gin liqueur.

This is a sweet, cordial-like gin which is very refreshing and perfect for spritz cocktails. They’re less bitter and more floral and fruity in flavour, which makes them an easy drinker if you’re after an alternative to, say, London Dry Gin.

They’re also lighter in alcohol compared to standard gin, with an ABV of around 20%, versus 37.5%.
